Sassa Reapplication for R350

My heart pounded as I walked up to the SASSA office. It was a hot day, and the line already stretched down the block.

I’d received that message a few weeks ago, the one telling me my R350 grant had stopped and I had to reapply.

I was nervous, and worried about filling out the forms wrong or not having the right papers.

See, I’m not great with all this technology stuff. My phone is old, and sometimes I forget how to even check my messages.

When the grant first started, my neighbour helped me apply online, but I’m on my own this time. I took a deep breath and squeezed my ID in my hand.

I guess today is the day I figure out how to do this reapplication thing.

Keep in mind: The South African government has updated the rules and requirements related to the SRD R350 grant.

This means even if you received it before, you likely need to reapply to show you still qualify under the new system.

Before You Start

  • Internet access: You’ll need a phone, tablet, or computer with an internet connection to do this.
  • ID Number: Have your South African ID number ready.
  • Phone Number: Make sure the phone number you used to apply before is still active. You’ll get an SMS (text message) on it.

1. Visiting the SASSA Website

Open your web browser (like Chrome or Safari) and type in this address carefully: https://srd.sassa.gov.za

2. Finding the Reapplication Section

Look for a button or a link that clearly says something like:

  • Reapply for the SRD Grant”
  • “Reconsider my application”
  • “Update my application”

3. Starting the Reapplication

ID Number: There will be a box for you to enter your South African ID number. Type it in accurately.

phone number: Enter the active phone number you used when you first applied.

4. The SMS Code

You’ll receive a special code (called an OTP) in a text message to that phone.

Find the box on the website asking for the code and type in the numbers from your SMS.

5. Filling Out the Form

Each question will be on the screen. Read slowly and make sure you understand what they are asking.

Provide accurate information about yourself, your income, and whether you receive any other support.

Before you submit, go through all your answers again to make sure there are no mistakes.

6. Submitting Your Reapplication

Once you’re sure everything is correct, look for the “Submit” button and click it.

7. Waiting for a Response

It takes time for SASSA to review applications. Don’t worry if you don’t hear back immediately.

You can check the status of your application on the same website by looking for a “Check Status” section.
