Beneficiaries of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Child Grant received welcome news this month as the agency announced an earlier-than-usual disbursement schedule for July 2024.
Traditionally, Child Grants are distributed on the 4th of each month. However, in a statement released on June 20th, SASSA highlighted its commitment to prioritizing the well-being of children and families.
To ensure grants reach recipients ahead of the busy month-end period, the agency confirmed the release of Child Grant funds would commence on Thursday, July 4th, 2024.
This move has been applauded by advocacy groups who work closely with vulnerable families.
SASSA spokesperson, Ms. Linda Mchunu, emphasized, “We understand the significant role the Child Grant plays in ensuring the basic needs of our children are met.
By expediting the disbursement process, we hope to alleviate some of the financial pressures faced by many households.”
The early disbursement applies solely to the Child Grant program. Recipients of other SASSA grants, such as the Older Persons Grant and Disability Grant, will receive their payments according to the standard schedule, commencing on July 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
SASSA encourages beneficiaries to plan their finances effectively and utilize the grant for its intended purpose – the well-being of children in their care.
