Shaft Sinking Planner

Job Description

Drive efficient shaft sinking operations at Ivanhoe Mines’ Limpopo project as a Shaft Sinking Planner. You’ll develop detailed schedules, leverage mine design software, and collaborate with engineering and survey teams to ensure project timelines are met. This role offers the chance to contribute to a cutting-edge mining operation by creating practical, safety-focused plans that optimize underground infrastructure development.

Requirements

• BSc/BEng in Mining Engineering or equivalent qualification
• Proficiency in mine design and scheduling software (e.g., Deswik, AutoCAD)
• Advanced MS Office skills
• Blasting Certificate advantageous
• ECSA registration preferred but not mandatory
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Knowledge of shaft sinking methodologies and lining processes
• Understanding of mine planning and scheduling principles
• Familiarity with relevant mining legislation and safety requirements
• Minimum 5 years’ mine planning experience, including shaft sinking or major underground infrastructure projects
• Experience in developing and managing project schedules

Responsibilities

• Ensure all plans comply with Mine Health and Safety Act and incorporate safe working practices
• Develop short- and medium-term shaft sinking and lining schedules
• Use mine design software to prepare practical and efficient plans
• Liaise with shaft sinking, engineering, survey, and geology teams to integrate planning requirements
• Track actual progress against plans, identify deviations, and propose corrective actions
• Produce progress reports for management and identify process improvement opportunities
