Job Description

Scholars Film is expanding its team and building capacity, seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to lead operations and drive the business forward both locally and globally through sourcing new business and building relationships. The Managing Director (MD) is an executive role responsible for overseeing Scholars Film’s overall operations, strategic direction, and management. The MD must ensure that business goals and objectives are met, aligning the company’s activities with its long-term vision and driving growth, profitability, and value for all involved - from service providers to clients. In a nutshell, someone pivotal in steering the company towards its objectives, ensuring operational excellence, and representing the business at the highest levels.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in business administration, management, or a related field (preferred)
  • 10–15+ years of experience in senior leadership roles, ideally as a general manager or similar capacity
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, business development, and organisational management
  • Strong financial acumen and proven ability to manage budgets and drive profitability
  • Excellent leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate law, regulatory requirements, and governance practices
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage complex challenges

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the company’s business strategies to achieve company goals
  • Drive and maintain company values, culture and maintain accountability
  • Oversee daily business operations, ensuring efficiency, profitability, and productivity across all departments
  • Lead and manage the executive team, delegating tasks, guiding, and motivating to drive maximum performance
  • Prepare and implement comprehensive business plans, including cost-effective operations and market development activities
  • Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are communicated and followed throughout the organisation
  • Oversee financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, investments, and reporting
  • Build and maintain relationships with key clients, service providers, investors, business partners, and regulatory authorities
  • Provide strategic advice and and guidance to the board of directors and chairperson, ensuring they have an accurate view of the market and company’s future
  • Represent the company in high-level negotiations, client engagements, legal procedures and public events
  • Monitor industry trends and market dynamics to identify growth opportunities and mitigate risks
  • Foster a positive and high-performance company culture, ensuring alignment between values, mission, and operations
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and corporate governance practices
  • Manage crises and resolve problematic situations to ensure company survival and growth
