eMedia, in proud partnership with MICT SETA, is offering a 12-month Internship Programme for 2025/2026. Interns will be hosted at eNCA in the position of Technical Operations Intern. The intern will receive training in various studio-based technical roles, including Floor Manager, Graphics Operator, Autocue Operator, Server/Brio Operator, Production Assistant, and Floor Audio Assistant. The role offers hands-on experience in live studio environments.
Requirements
- National Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4) - Essential
- National Diploma in Broadcast (NQF Level 6) - Essential
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Intermediate English language proficiency

- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be under the age of 35
- Candidates who have previously participated or are currently engaged in a SETA-funded internship are not eligible.

Responsibilities
- Welcome guests and ensure their safety and microphone setup (Floor Manager)
- Check studio equipment functionality and report issues (Floor Manager)
- Cue talent and give countdowns during live shows (Floor Manager)
- Ensure adherence to studio protocols (Floor Manager)
- Confirm functionality of Viz machine and software (Graphics Operator)
- Ensure graphics rundown accuracy and preview content before airing (Graphics Operator)
- Preview and clean scripts before production (Autocue)
- Update scripts and operate autocue in sync with presenter (Autocue)
- Setting up and operating the Server/Brio for video playback and recording (Server/Brio Operator)
- Taking direction from the Technical Director on playback as per the running order (Server/Brio Operator)
- Coordinate with FCC to ensure timing accuracy (Production Assistant)
- Monitor countdowns for bytes/packages and manage transitions (Production Assistant)
- Calculate interview durations and signal breaks (Production Assistant)
- Set up the Microphone in studio (Floor Audio Assistant)
- Check if all microphones work properly (Floor Audio Assistant)
- Pack microphones separately in their cases after the bulletin/Show (Floor Audio Assistant)
- Check that mic belt clips and croc clips are all still there before and after the bulletin (Floor Audio Assistant)
- Check with Sound and the Technical Director if both comms 1 & 2 work properly (Floor Audio Assistant)
- Make sure that batteries are all fully charged before the bulletin/show (Floor Audio Assistant)
- Place batteries in charger after the bulletin and make sure that they are charging (Floor Audio Assistant)
- Ensure Presenters microphones, in ear comms are properly and neatly run and no tape or cables are showing (Floor Audio Assistant)
