Job Description

The PBT Group is looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join our team in Cape Town. This role is crucial for maintaining and reconciling financial accounts, preparing accurate financial reports, and supporting key business decisions. You will be responsible for a full accounting function, from managing accounts payable and receivable to compiling financial statements and liaising with external auditors.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Experience using CaseWare is essential.
  • Bookkeeping qualification or an accounting diploma.
  • Familiarity with managing financial records for multiple sites or locations.
  • A solid understanding of accounting principles and month-end processes.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to work constructively and collaboratively within a team.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills, including effective presentation of information.
  • High energy and adaptability to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Proven ability to manage tight deadlines.
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort with large data volumes.
  • Proficiency with Pastel.
  • Knowledge of SAGE Evolution is advantageous.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • A valid driver’s license and own transport.
  • National Certificate qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Process and prepare monthly accounting records for the full accounting function.
  • Perform bank recons, as well as General Ledger and subsidiary ledger reconciliations.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, and manage the full debtors and creditors function.
  • Compile invoices and monthly customer statements.
  • Analyze financial information and explain any variances.
  • Calculate and submit VAT returns, including performing VAT reconciliations.
  • Manage Fixed Asset Registers, including monthly depreciation and accuracy maintenance.
  • Handle intercompany transactions, interest calculations, and amortized schedules.
  • Generate financial reports such as Income Statements, Balance Sheets, and management accounts.
  • Liaise with external Auditors.
  • Conduct valuation of foreign clients and bank accounts to account for foreign exchange differences.
  • Provide ad hoc financial and administrative support to employees and the finance team.
