Job Description

The Wykeham Collegiate, a progressive independent girls’ school in Pietermaritzburg, is offering an academic internship in the Senior School starting 1 January 2026. The opportunity is ideal for final-year BEd students, PGCE candidates, or newly qualified educators seeking practical experience in the FET/Senior Phase. The intern will be expected to contribute to both academic and extra-curricular programmes in a values-based educational environment.

Requirements

• Currently in 4th year of a BEd programme or studying a PGCE (FET/Senior Phase) in 2025
• Alternatively, recently qualified and seeking a year of teaching experience in the FET/Senior Phase
• Willingness to be involved in the school’s extra-curricular programme
• Prepared to work in a school environment aligned with Christian values
• Submission of a written application and curriculum vitae including three references

Responsibilities

• Support classroom teaching in the FET/Senior Phase
• Engage with students in a holistic learning environment
• Participate in extra-curricular activities as required
• Demonstrate professional conduct and align with school values
• Contribute to the daily academic life of the Senior School
