Job Description

Absa is hiring a Specialist Africa Tax Risk to oversee tax compliance and advisory duties for its Sandton office in a hybrid working setup. The role involves delivering statutory compliance, preparing tax disclosures and reports, handling income tax queries, and maintaining tax relationships with internal teams and external authorities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• Post-graduate degree or diploma in Income Tax (preferred)
• At least 3 years' experience in income tax compliance including SARS e-filing and correspondence
• Experience in tax for insurance (short or long term) advantageous
• Strong MS Excel skills, including use of macros
• Proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of SAP, COUPA, and BW (beneficial)
• Effective communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing abilities
• Problem-solving mindset and ability to manage resources effectively
• Assertiveness in managing tasks and delivering under pressure

Responsibilities

• Deliver monthly effective tax rate explanations and tax disclosures for assigned cluster
• Monitor and consolidate tax relief for annual financial statements
• Prepare tax forecasts, attestations, board packs, and competitor tax rate analyses
• Provide income tax advice to subsidiaries and handle tax-related business queries
• Manage tax compliance for assigned subsidiaries, including return submissions and payment monitoring
• Handle DWT, IWT, STT returns and ensure withholding taxes are correctly treated
• Respond to SARS queries, assist with VDP processes, and ensure compliance documentation is up to date
• Maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, SARS, and external auditors
• Drive tax process council initiatives and conduct internal training on legislative updates
• Complete all training and upskilling requirements as needed
