Head of Technical Operations

Job Description

Pollock Associates is hiring a Head of Technical Operations to lead the technology strategy of a fast-growing firm transforming mining supply chains in Southern Africa. The position covers software and hardware development, AI and automation, IT infrastructure and security, and R&D. The role requires cross-functional leadership and a deep understanding of industrial and technology integration to deliver scalable, secure, and commercially valuable solutions in asset-heavy sectors.

Requirements

• 10–15 years in progressive technical roles within technology-driven industries
• 5–7 years in senior technology leadership (e.g., CTO, VP Engineering)
• Proven success managing cross-functional teams in complex environments
• Strong preference for experience in mining, supply chain, logistics, or heavy industry
• Full-stack software and cloud-native architecture expertise
• Experience in AI/ML deployment, automation, and predictive analytics
• Knowledge of IoT/embedded systems and industrial hardware
• Advanced IT infrastructure and cybersecurity capabilities
• Experience leading R&D from concept to commercialisation
• Master’s degree (MBA or MSc) and certifications in AI, cloud, or cybersecurity (preferred)
• In-depth knowledge of Southern Africa’s mining and logistics sectors (preferred)
• Familiarity with regulatory and operational challenges in heavy industries (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Lead technical vision and execution across four departments: Software Development, AI & Automation, IT Infrastructure & Security, and R&D
• Drive the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performance technology solutions
• Manage and align cross-functional teams under a unified strategic direction
• Oversee integration of software and industrial hardware in mining supply chains
• Promote innovation and continuous improvement in systems and processes
• Shape solutions that respond to real operational and commercial challenges
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations in heavy industry environments
