Job Description

Absa Group is seeking a Compute Engineering Lead to direct the agile solution design, deployment, and ongoing evolution of enterprise-wide technology platforms. This hybrid role involves managing compute infrastructure, aligning strategy across the Engineering Services Platforms Office, and delivering modern, client-centric hybrid cloud solutions across network, server, storage, and security domains. The position requires strong collaboration, vendor management, and leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology
  • 10–15 years of technology experience, preferably in financial services
  • 5–7 years of project management experience
  • 3–5 years of people management experience
  • Industry certifications such as TOGAF, Microsoft, Citrix, Cisco, Avaya, HP, Dell, VMWare, Cloud certifications
  • Strategic, financial, and service management capabilities
  • Experience with infrastructure architecture, systems engineering, and automation tooling
  • Proficiency with DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP), virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM)
  • Knowledge of Intel x86 and pSeries platforms, as well as Linux, Windows, AIX, and AS400 operating systems
  • Experience with enterprise storage and backup platforms (e.g., NetApp, Commvault, Veeam)
  • Personal skills including problem solving, planning, communication, leadership, and sound judgement under pressure

Responsibilities

  • Lead product strategy for infrastructure services including 'buy, hold, sell' decisions
  • Drive design and development of technology products and services across compute domains
  • Guide engineering teams in implementing product roadmaps and technical configurations
  • Ensure technology capacity and performance monitoring is in place and aligned with SLAs
  • Develop and maintain multi-year service roadmaps and reference architectures
  • Oversee service performance, improvements, and operational readiness across domains
  • Manage total cost of ownership, pricing, and service catalogue documentation
  • Ensure full compliance with audit, resiliency, and business continuity requirements
  • Engage with LoBs to understand future demand and ensure alignment with business goals
  • Maintain strategic vendor relationships and guide product direction based on market trends
  • Drive continuous improvement in efficiency, delivery quality, and stakeholder satisfaction
  • Promote team collaboration, skills alignment, and cross-domain integration within IAAS
