Salesworx is seeking a New Business Development Specialist for a South African fintech company in Johannesburg North. The role involves sourcing, qualifying, and onboarding high-value merchants to drive revenue through the company’s payment, marketing, and capital tools. This is a remote-working role with occasional in-person meetings, focusing on merchant growth rather than traditional payment solutions, using proprietary QR codes, vouchers, and embedded partner services.
Requirements
- Solid experience in Sales, Customer Success, or Marketing
- Fintech experience (preferred)
- Strong business acumen and experience with payment products
- Ability to interact with merchants and knowledge of retail/hospitality industry
- Familiarity with local retail/business offerings
- Ability to work remotely and drive active participation in an online environment
- Commercially driven with strong outbound hustle
- Ability to close deals quickly and handle objections confidently
- Structured and accountable, proficient in Zoho and Campaign Manager
- Ability to pitch growth-focused solutions
- Collaborative with Merchant Growth Managers, Ops, and Regional Growth Activators
- Adaptable to fieldwork, roadshows, and street-level sales
Responsibilities
- Proactively identify high-potential merchant leads through cold outreach, referrals, street activations, event networking, and local ecosystem mapping
- Qualify merchants based on transaction volume, footfall, marketing potential, and category fit
- Segment and prioritize outreach across key verticals (e.g., hospitality, parking, laundromats, retail, food service)
- Present the company’s core merchant proposition: 'We only get paid when you do'
- Articulate the business value of QR codes, conversion-based vouchers, merchant-funded marketing, and digital capital solutions
- Handle objections confidently and close deals quickly
- Escalate complex questions to the Merchant Growth Manager or Ops team when needed
- Ensure signed merchants are fully live within 48 hours of confirmation
- Brief the Merchant Growth Manager on merchant goals, vertical specifics, and anticipated needs
- Schedule POS onboarding and initiate setup tasks with internal Ops
- Ensure merchants understand QR placement, signage, and next steps
- Keep Zoho updated with merchant activity, funnel stage, lead source, close date, and setup status
- Submit weekly acquisition metrics and participate in pipeline reviews
- Flag bottlenecks or drop-offs for course correction and territory optimization
- Maintain active awareness of territory launches, pending merchants, and competitor activity
- Provide voice-of-merchant feedback to shape GTM sequencing, pricing strategy, and in-market messaging
- Collaborate with Regional Growth Activators to align lead generation with regional campaigns
