The Chief Financial Officer: Schemes leads financial strategy and governance within the Retail Bank, focusing on the design, viability, and performance monitoring of Card schemes. This role involves partnering with multiple departments to develop business cases, assess financial risks, and ensure commercial alignment with profitability and customer engagement goals.

Requirements

  • Post Graduate Degree: Honours Degree, Post Graduate Diploma and Professional Qualifications (NQF8) in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, or related fields
  • 10+ years of experience in Financial Management, including 5+ years in people management roles within a large enterprise
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic finance solutions, manage budgets and investments, and influence enterprise-level decision-making
  • Exposure to digital transformation, data strategy, and regulatory compliance frameworks
  • Proven track record in financial stewardship, profitability enablement, and business partnering
  • Leadership competencies including Strategic Thinking, Business Acumen, Communication, Influence, Leadership, Creativity and Innovation, Delivering Results, Adaptability, Collaboration
  • Knowledge and skills in financial planning and control, strategic cost and capital management, commercial and investment decision support, risk and control frameworks, digital finance platforms and data analytics, financial regulatory environment, cybersecurity and BCM awareness for finance leaders

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial strategy and planning for schemes aligning with overall bank objectives
  • Provide oversight for scheme design, pricing models, profitability analysis, and ROI assessments
  • Partner with business units to develop and refine scheme-based products
  • Monitor and report scheme performance; recommend optimisation strategies
  • Ensure financial governance, risk assessment, and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning for scheme activities
  • Drive automation, analytics, and reporting improvements
  • Execute functional strategy and maintain compliant control environment balancing risk and growth
  • Manage strategic investment budgets aligned with enterprise strategy
  • Build inclusive, diverse, and entrepreneurial culture within the team
  • Influence integration of Treasury, Risk, and Finance functions
  • Support business leaders with advanced modelling and actionable intelligence
  • Align BCM and cybersecurity strategies with business goals
  • Develop growth plans aligned with segment and enterprise priorities
  • Mobilise teams to deliver growth targets and embed performance accountability
  • Coach, mentor, and develop financially and business savvy leaders
  • Operationalise strategic goals with clear deliverables, timelines, and KPIs
  • Improve operational effectiveness leveraging data insights
  • Implement governance, risk, and compliance frameworks
  • Promote risk awareness and lead response to regulatory changes
  • Support audit readiness and ensure adherence to compliance
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and ensure engagement consistent with transformation priorities
  • Use data monetisation to support business planning and decision-making
