Job Description

Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) is hiring a Chief Designer to lead the Flight Procedure Design section, ensuring compliance with ICAO and SACAA standards. The role involves managing design projects, validating procedures, and providing technical advice. The Chief Designer will oversee training, maintain documentation, and engage with clients to support ATNS’s safety and business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Administration or equivalent tertiary qualification
  • Basic and Advanced PANS-OPS Course with 18 months mentorship
  • Training in Procedure Design aided software, preferably PFDAM
  • On-the-job Instructor course
  • 5 years’ PANS-OPS design experience (Senior)
  • 3 years in an air traffic service environment, preferably air traffic control in approach/procedural/radar control, or Aircrew (Pilot/Navigator: Instrument environment) operational experience
  • 2 years’ OJTI experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the Flight Procedure Design section
  • Report to Head ASM & TA and SACAA on safety concerns
  • Ensure progress and completion of projects and client requests
  • Validate and approve flight procedure designs per ICAO and SACAA standards
  • Ensure compliance of design reports, charts, and calculations
  • Maintain documentation for audits and SMS
  • Provide Procedure Design Approval Letters for SACAA submission
  • Review and manage procedure design processes
  • Conduct safety assurance and proficiency assessments
  • Evaluate and document mitigation actions
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations
  • Provide inputs into Safety Group Meetings
  • Ensure implementation of SACAA audit recommendations
  • Manage FPD/Charting training and standards programs
  • Oversee obstacle evaluations per ICAO standards
  • Communicate design services to clients
  • Draft formal quotations for clients
  • Pursue new business opportunities
  • Liaise with clients on proposals and meetings
  • Provide technical input to ATM system development
  • Design flight procedures and airspace per standards
  • Produce design drawings, reports, and calculations
  • Provide consultation services internally/externally
  • Conduct research into new technology and advancements
  • Provide specialist consultancy services
  • Participate in Instrument Flight Procedure panels/workshops
  • Provide input into PANS-OPS budgeting and training
  • Manage office infrastructure and software requirements
  • Develop and maintain training manuals
  • Assess proficiency for FPS trainees
  • Amend and maintain quality assurance procedures
