Luckily, I wasn’t completely lost. After some digging, I discovered a couple of ways to recover it online.
Now, I want to share this newfound knowledge with you, using both the Sassa website and the Moya App.
Important Things to Remember:

- Sassa has an official website (https://srd.sassa.gov.za/), but be cautious of unofficial websites mimicking it.
Steps To Recover Your Lost Sassa R370 Reference Number Online Via Status Check
Choose Your Recovery Method: Sassa offers two ways to recover your reference number:
- The Sassa SRD Website: This method allows you to retrieve your reference number directly through the Sassa website.
- The Moya App: If you have a smartphone, you can download the Moya App (available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store) and use it to access your Sassa grant information.
Method 1: Using the Sassa SRD Website
- Open a Web Browser: Launch your preferred web browser on your computer or phone.
- Navigate to the Sassa SRD Website: In the address bar, type the following address exactly: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/. This will ensure you’re on the official Sassa website.
- Locate the Enquiry Section: Once on the Sassa website, look for a section labeled “Enquiry” or “Status Check.” The exact location might vary depending on the website layout.
- Provide Your ID Number: Within the Enquiry section, find a field where you can enter your South African ID number.
- Submit Your Request: Once you’ve entered your ID number correctly, click the “Submit” or “Enquire” button.
- Retrieve Your Information: The website should retrieve your grant information, including your reference number. Make a note of it for future reference.

Method 2: Using the Moya App
- Download and Install the Moya App: If you prefer using a mobile app, download and install the Moya App on your smartphone. It's free to download on both Android and iOS devices.
- Launch the Moya App: Once installed, open the Moya App on your phone.
- Locate Sassa Services: Within the Moya App, look for a section or icon labelled "Sassa Services" or "Grant Status."
- Select "Check Grant Status": Under Sassa Services, find and tap the option labelled "Check Grant Status" or similar wording.
- Enter Your ID Number: A new screen will appear where you can enter your South African ID number.
- Submit Your Request: After entering your ID number accurately, tap the "Submit" button within the app.
- View Your Grant Information: The app should display your grant details, including your reference number. Take a screenshot or write it down for safekeeping.

- If you encounter any issues during the process, contact Sassa directly for assistance. You can find their contact information on the Sassa website.
- Be wary of phishing attempts. Sassa will never ask for your personal information via email or SMS.
