Job Description
As a Fire Fighter 1 at Kimberley Airport, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of airport operations. Reporting to the Supervisor: Fire and Rescue, you will maintain operational readiness, respond to emergencies, and conduct inspections to mitigate risks. Your work will involve operating specialized firefighting and rescue equipment, participating in safety awareness programs, and supporting a culture of compliance and preparedness. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the safety of one of South Africa’s key airports while developing your skills in a dynamic aviation environment.
Requirements
- Valid Senior Certificate (Matric).
- Fire Fighter 1 certification is essential.
- Hazmat Awareness certification is essential.
- BAA/First Aid Level 3 certification is essential.
- MS Office – Basic proficiency.
- Code B motor vehicle license.
Responsibilities
- Maintain operational readiness of resources including vehicle, equipment, and infrastructure to comply with Airport category.
- Operate Fire Fighting and Rescue Equipment and Tools.
- Ensure understanding of vehicle and/or equipment and limitations to ensure utilisation within design parameters.
- Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and reporting of defects when required and follow up.
- Adhere to relevant statutory/legislative regulations, SOPs, operational standards, ACSA policies and procedures, employee manual, and Service Level Agreements/MOU to ensure business continuity.
- Activate and respond to all relevant incidents and accidents within area of jurisdiction, scope of training, and expertise.
- Conduct emergency standbys to prevent incidents and accidents as requested.
- Analyse, monitor, identify, mitigate, and report areas of non-compliance (HIRA).
- Conduct Runway, Taxiway, and Apron inspections and patrols to reduce potential hazards, notify ATC, and take remedial action if necessary.
- Build, support, and maintain healthy diverse internal (peers, unions, team) as well as external (service providers, etc.) relationships and implement remedial actions where required to ensure achievement of organisational goals and enhance emergency response preparedness.
- Record and capture information for billing purposes (Flight Information Display screens real-time).
- Participate in educational Fire and Safety awareness programmes.
- Maintain level of physical fitness as per ACSA policies and procedures.
- Attend identified development programmes for succession planning purposes.
- Attend mandatory Aviation training as per ACSA policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
- Perform the same duties and functions in line with the requirements for an Aircraft Marshaller.
- Respond to all medical emergencies within area of jurisdiction and scope of training.
