How to Collect Sassa SRD R350 Grant at ShopRite

Collecting my SASSA R350 grant at Shoprite has become part of my monthly routine.

I know that many people feel a bit lost about the process, especially if they aren’t used to dealing with official stuff online.

That’s why I want to share my experience, from the moment I got that “application approved” SMS to when I walked out of Shoprite with the cash in hand.

It’s actually much easier than you might think, and knowing what to expect helps a lot with any nerves you might have.

Before You Go to Shoprite right away;

Check your approval status:

Visit this link sassainsider.co.za/sassa-status-check , enter your ID number and your cell number then click “Check Status”.

Wait for the collection message: If you’ve been approved, you’ll receive an SMS telling you that your grant is ready and where to collect it.

Only go if you get this message.

Step-By-Step Guide to Collect Your R350 at SHOPRITE

  1. Find Your Nearest Shoprite: Most Shoprite stores participate in the R350 grant payout. You can find a convenient one by:
    • Checking the SASSA website (https://srd.sassa.gov.za) for locations near you.
    • Calling the SASSA hotline (0800 60 10 11) for assistance.
  2. Go to the Money Market Counter: Inside Shoprite, look for signs that say “Money Market”. This is a dedicated counter for financial services.
  3. Tell Them You’re Collecting the R350: Inform the cashier you want to collect your R350 social grant.
  4. Provide Your ID: Show your South African ID document to the cashier. They will scan it to verify your identity.
  5. Receive a Cellphone Message: You will get an SMS on the cellphone number you registered with SASSA. This message has a special code (a voucher number).
  6. Give the Code to the Cashier: Read the code from the SMS out loud to the cashier.
  7. Receive Your Cash: The cashier will count out your R350 grant and hand it to you.

Important Things to Remember

  • Bring your phone: Make sure you have the cellphone linked to your SASSA grant with you so you can receive the code.
  • No card needed: Unlike getting money at an ATM, you don’t need a bank card to collect your grant.
  • Check the amount: Before leaving the counter, ensure you’ve received the full R350.
  • Fees: There should be NO fees to collect your R350. If anyone asks you for a fee, report it to SASSA.
